SIFMA Foundation and Cabrera Capital Market Launch Strategic Partnership on Financial Education with Stock Market Game Program

New York, NY, December 4, 2008 – – In an effort to improve financial literacy in the US, Cabrera Capital Markets announced today that they will provide close to 12,000 students in the Bronx, New York with free access to the acclaimed Stock Market Game™ (SMG) program. The donation was made as part of a strategic partnership between Cabrera Capital Markets and the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association Foundation for Investor Education (SIFMA Foundation).

The Stock Market Game’s carefully integrated curriculum lets students experience the financial markets in the classroom as they learn math, economics, social studies and the importance of saving and investing for the long term. Since 1977, SMG has taught more than 11 million students about our economy with its engaging, real-world educational program. The Stock Market Game is conducted in the classroom by a trained teacher and students receive a hypothetical $100,000 to invest in real stocks, bonds, and mutual funds.

“I participated in The Stock Market Game when I was in high school,” said Martin Cabrera, CEO of Cabrera Capital Markets, “it’s what got me excited about the investment world. But you don’t have to be an aspiring broker to learn valuable lessons. As students participate, they absorb information about how our economy and capital markets work.”

Cabrera Capital Markets commitment to funding the program will allow over 50,000 students to participate free in the Stock Market Game for this school year. In addition to funding in Illinois, Texas, Philadelphia and New Mexico, this year Mr. Cabrera made a commitment to the Bronx, NY to keep the program free for all teachers and students that wish to engage in the program.

“Martin’s commitment to the program has been stalwart,” said Kathleen M. Floyd, Executive Director, The Stock Market Game, “his funding makes it possible for tens of thousands of students around the country and now in the Bronx to learn about long-term saving and investing with The Stock Market Game. His philanthropy is making a real difference.”
